The creation of the Asian Beach Games has given athletes an opportunity to practice their popular and non-Olympic games in a competitive settings, President of the Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC) and President of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah said Monday.
The Asian Beach Games were created by the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) and were held first in the island of Bali, Indonesia, in 2008. Ever since, the games have expanded to comprise jiu jitsu, flag football, beach kurash, sambo, wrestling, squash and pentathlon in its latest edition.
OCA has made sure to include beach games in a competitive atmosphere in order to boost friendly ties among countries and to enhance the performance of athletes. It also encourages many countries to use their beaches to hold inexpensive sporting events with greater revenues.
