As many as 165 civilians, including 53 children and 23 women, have been killed in recent clashes in Yemen, the UN high commissioner for human rights has said.

Another 210 Yemenis were also injured in incidents that took place in the period between July 3-15, the high commissioner told a press conference in Geneva Tuesday.

He talked about 1,693 civilian deaths and 3,829 civilian injuries since March 26.

Conflicting parties are always reminded that direct attacks on civilians or civilian targets constitute a hazardous violation of international humanitarian law, the high commissioner said.

Militants loyal to the Houthi group and former president Ali Abdullah Saleh have repeatedly targeted highly populated areas, he noted.

He also made it clear that the siege imposed on al Dalae city has greatly restricted aid delivery.

He also said that Houthis have recruited militants, including children.

About 1.8 million children have been affected by the closure of 70 percent of schools across Yemen, the high commissioner further said.
