Sanaa - MENA

The military council in Yemen's Taiz city said 14 Houthi militants and fighters loyal to deposed Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh were killed in clashes with army and rebel forces in various parts west of Taiz and Silw district in the south.

Government forces confronted an attack by the fighters and forced them to withdraw, causing big losses, said the council's media center.

One soldier was murdered and 11 others were injured in the clashes, it added.

Some 10 civilians were wounded Monday in random shelling of residential areas in the city, according to the center.
