A key Taliban leader had been killed following a special operation in Afghanistan's eastern province of Parwan, a provincial security source said on Saturday.
"Alam Uddin, alias Hommad was killed after Afghan Public Order Police launched a special operation in Darraz Gaz village, Shinwari District on Friday," the source told Chinese news agency (Xinhua).
The killed insurgent leader, who served as deputy shadow district governor for Taliban in Shinwari, was responsible for organizing several terrorist activities over the past couple of months in the province, 55 km north of Afghan capital of Kabul, the source added.
The Afghan security forces have beefed up security operations against militants recently after the so-called fighting season starts in the country.
The Taliban militants, which ruled the country before they were ousted in late 2001, renewed armed insurgency, staging ambushes and suicide attacks, killing combatants as well as civilians.
Some 21 persons, including seven police personnel, had been killed and nearly 40 others wounded in two Taliban-led suicide bombings in Parwan over the past two months.
