Clashes broke out in East Jerusalem after news of the death of a Palestinian teenager who died from injuries sustained when he was shot last week by Israeli border police.
Police said Palestinians threw stones and firecrackers at officers in Wadi Joz and the Issawiya and al-Tur districts of East Jerusalem and stoned civilian traffic, Ma'an news agency reported.
They also threw petrol bombs at a petrol station on the edge of the East Jerusalem Israeli settlement of French Hill, setting a pump on fire.
A Palestinian teenager from Jerusalem who was shot in the head by an Israeli soldier with a rubber-coated steel bullet a week ago succumbed to his wounds Sunday morning.
Muhammad Abd Al-Majid Sunuqrut, 16, died as a martyr on Monday and his body was taken to the Abu Kabir Forensic Institute for an autopsy to be undertaken by a Palestinian doctor and a lawyer.
Muhammad was shot by Israeli forces in the head as he was talking on the phone in Wadi al-Joz in what his father at the time said was an "unprovoked attack."
The youth suffered a fractured skull as a result of the attack and at the time underwent surgery at Hadassah Medical Center in Jerusalem in order to stop bleeding and remove fragments caused by the impact of the bullet.
His father said the youth was preparing for the new school year when he was shot.
The Tel Aviv regime started pounding the enclave in early July, inflicting heavy losses on the Palestinian land.
The Israeli war ended on August 26 by an Egyptian-brokered truce, which took effect after negotiations in Cairo. The deal stipulates the ease of Israel’s seven-year-old blockade as well as the provision of a guarantee that Palestinian demands will be met. Almost 2,140 Palestinians, mostly civilians, including women, children and the elderly, were killed in the Israeli onslaught on Gaza. Around 11,000 others were also injured.
Tel Aviv says 72 Israelis were killed in the conflict, but Palestinian resistance movement Hamas says the number is much higher.
The Palestinian Islamic Jihad movement has said it fired over 3,000 rockets on dozens of Israeli cities during the Israeli war.
