
Transport Minister Hisham Arafat met Wednesday with a delegation of the European Investment Bank (EIB), who expressed desire to contribute to the renovation of the first two metro lines in Cairo.
The EIB is also willing to cooperate with Cairo in logistics zones in the 10th of Ramadan and 6th of October cities.
The delegation said the EIB is ready to support an investment unit at the Transport Ministry.
The EIB also offered to bankroll a project to upgrade the Alexandria tramway between the areas of El Asafara and El Manshiya.
Arafat greatly appreciated fruitful cooperation between Egypt and the EIB.
He made it clear that renovating the first line of the metro is a top priority of his Ministry.
The EIB offered to secure 50 percent of the funds needed to renovate the metro line, Arafat noted.
