Sisi: Egypt seeks stronger ties with Britain
Cairo - Arab Today

President Abdel Fattah El Sisi said on Tuesday that Egypt was looking forward to upgrading bilateral relations with Britain.

Sisi made the comments at a meeting with a group of friends of Egypt from the British parliament led by member of the House of Commons Gerald Howarth.

At the meeting, Sisi said that he followed up developments after the British people voted for leaving the European Union and forming a new British government.

He stressed the importance of boosting contacts between British and Egyptian lawmakers in a way that contributes to strengthening parliamentary ties. Sisi also said that London should be briefed on political, economic and social developments in Egypt and the Middle East.

The members of the friends of Egypt group stressed their keenness on bolstering relations with Cairo at all levels, including the parliamentary domain, presidential spokesman Alaa Youssef said.

They praised the Egyptian political leadership for its success in achieving stability and not dragging the country into tension.

The British lawmakers also lauded Egypt’s efforts in combating terrorism, stressing the necessity of joining forces to eliminate this scourge that threatens the whole world.

The president reviewed the latest developments in Egypt and the government’s efforts to enforce the rule of law and the concept of citizenship, as well as address all economic, political and security challenges facing the country.

He pointed out to ongoing national projects that aim at improving the infrastructure, as well as the new legislative and administrative measures to remove obstacles facing investors.

The British MPs pledged to encourage British businessmen to increase investments in Egypt and to convey the real image about efforts to achieve development in the various fields.

The meeting also tackled a number of topics, including a British ban imposed on flights to Sharm el Sheikh and measures taken by Egypt to lift the embargo.

In this regard, the British group stressed their support for all steps aiming at restoring the flow of British tourists to Egypt.
