ANGELA Merkel’s Christian Democratic Union (CDU) has edged ahead of rival Martin Schultz in a latest poll.
According to a recent poll, Merkel would beat Schulz by 46% to 40%, as reported by LiveSquawk.
When asked who they would prefer as Chancellor, 41 per cent of respondents said they backed Merkel and 31 per cent chose Shultz.
Both Merkel, who will seek a fourth term as chancellor, and Schultz are hoping to end their parties' current grand coalition and form a new government with smaller allies.
