Palestinian President meets U.S. consul general in Jerusalem

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas met here today with the U.S. Consul General in Jerusalem Daniel Rubenstein. During the meeting President Abbas said the Palestinian option to go to the United Nation to assume the membership of Palestine in the international body was due to Israeli intransigence and refusal to comply with international conventions. He stressed that the settlement policy is the real obstacle hampering the resumption of serious negotiations the would lead to an end to the occupation and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state within 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
