Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu
Lagos - ArabToday

The Nigerian Senate on Thursday commenced a confirmation hearing on the country's anti-graft chief Ibrahim Magu.

Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu said the Presidency had in July written to the Senate to seek screening and confirmation of Magu as substantive chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari appointed Magu as acting chairman of the EFCC after the removal of Ibrahim Lamorde on Nov. 9, 2015.

Before his appointment as the acting EFCC chairman, Magu was the head of Economic Governance Unit of the commission.

Magu will be the fourth head of the anti-graft agency, after Nuhu Ribadu, Farida Waziri and Ibrahim Lamorde, if confirmed.
