Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi, in a letter to the organization of Islamic cooperation (OIC) chairman, voiced deep concern over the humanitarian crisis in Somalia. Salehi conveyed the concern in a letter to Chairman of the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, calling for immediate action to stem starvation in Somalia. He praised the initiatives taken by the OIC and in the meantime, supported the upcoming OIC emergency meeting to coordinate dispatch food supplies from the Islamic countries to Somalia. Salehi notified Ihsanoglu about Iran's plan to send food supplies to the Somalian people.
