Rome - Irna

Iran’s Ambassador to Italy Mohammad Ali Hosseini called on European states Friday to study various cases of human rights violations made by NATO member states in Libya. The call was made in a meeting here between Hosseini and President of the Commission on Human Rights in the Italian Senate Pietro Marcenaro. Referring to various cases of human rights violations made in Libya by members of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), Hosseini urged international bodies in charge of human rights issues to step in and study the situation in Libya where many of civilians were victimized against resolutions of the UN Security Council. Criticizing Marcenaro’s comments about a number of judicial verdicts recently issued by the Iranian courts, ambassador Hosseini said that West’s standard policy vis-à-vis the human rights issue as well as the way West has used the issue as a political leverage against certain countries were two major problems facing the issue of human rights. Hosseini also said that Tehran was ready to hold a clear and transparent talks with any European countries about the human rights issue. Meanwhile, the Italian side said that all world countries were responsible to respect human rights. Marcenaro referred to Iran as a country with a dynamic democracy.
