France "may reconsider" participation in UNIFIL

French President Nicolas Sarkozy on Thursday said that France "may reconsider its participation in UNIFIL" if it is attacked again, in reference to the roadside bombing in the southern city of Saida in July, which wounded three French UNIFIL soldiers. In a letter sent to Lebanese President Michel Sleiman and Prime Minister Najib Mikati on August 3, Sarkozy said "if the July 26 attack reoccurs," he will look into whether France has a justification to keep its troops to confront threats which "the host country is not dealing with as it should." "It is important that measures are taken quickly to guarantee security," added the letter.
