Tehran - Fars

Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi in a meeting with the visiting Afghan and Pakistani deputy foreign ministers underlined Tehran's readiness and eagerness to further cooperate with the two neighboring countries to establish peace and stability in the region. At the meeting, Salehi reiterated Tehran's resolve to cooperate with other regional countries in establishment of peace and security, saying "The Islamic Republic of Iran as an important country will render its maximum cooperation on this path." He further underlined that cooperation among the regional countries and away from the interference of the trans-regional states is the best way to secure stability in the region."Those trans-regional countries which are present here seek to secure their own interests have not helped to the establishment of stability and security in the region and have rather added to the problems of the region and its people," he said. The Afghan and Pakistani officials, for their parts, elaborated on their government's views on different bilateral and regional issues, and called for the further reinvigoration of the bilateral, trilateral and regional cooperation among the three countries. In relevant remarks last week, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in a telephone conversation with his Afghan counterpart Hamid Karzai had stressed the need for continued consultations among the three neighboring states of Iran, Pakistan and Afghanistan, saying that such discussions facilitate regional convergence and understanding. "Enemies never want to see friendship and brotherhood in the region and we should do our best to bring hearts and thoughts closer to each other," he noted. Earlier Media reports said that President Ahmadinejad is likely to visit Pakistan next month to participate in the trilateral summit of Iranian, Afghan and Pakistani Presidents. The schedule including the dates was finalized for the next meeting of the Presidents Asif Ali Zardari, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and Hamid Karzai. The three leaders had agreed in the last meeting in June this year to expand and strengthen trilateral cooperation for peace, stability and development in the region. The first trilateral meeting of the Iranian, Afghan and Pakistani presidents was held in Tehran in 2010 followed by a second meeting in Kabul, in June, 2011.
