Donald Trump clashes with U.S. federal appeals court after his order to ban immigrants from seven predominantly Muslim countries is put on hold.
Federal judge James Robart along with four other judges nationwide blocked the ban on Friday as the justice department stated that the immigration ban was causing “irreparable harm” to the general American public.
Trump took his criticism to Twitter, arguing that the US court system was making it “very difficult” to improve the country’s national security.
According to Al Jazeera, Robart’s ruling “had run afoul of constitutional separation of powers, and second-guesses the president’s national security judgement.”
On Monday, the White House and the two U.S. states, Washington and Minnesota will present their evidence to back their arguments on the immigration ban.
After this, the court will most likely schedule a hearing or confirm whether the ban should be reinstated or remain suspended.
Currently, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals have not provided reason for declining the government’s request to immediately reinstate the immigration ban.
Many who have been affected by the ban are now relieved to have their visas reinstated.
“It feels great”, said Kamal Fadlallah, a 33-year-old Sudanese doctor who returned to New York after being stuck in his home country for more than he planned to be.
A 25-year-old law graduate from Syria, who wishes not to be named told AFP that “I jumped up and haven’t been able to sleep since. I’m ecstatic.”
Almost 100 tech companies, including Apple, Google and Microsoft, had filed a legal brief opposing Trump’s ban, saying it “inflicts significant harm on American business, innovation, and growth as a result.”
The brief emphasized that “immigrants or their children founded more than 200 of the companies on the Fortune 500 list. Trump’s order represents a significant departure from the principles of fairness and predictability that have governed the immigration system of the United States for more than 50 years”.
There has been a massive political backlash against Trump’s order, which has led to huge protests worldwide.
