British Prime Minister Theresa May pledged that her country will stand against any attempts to defeat the values that the UK Parliament stands for.
Speaking after chairing a meeting of the Government's Cobra emergencies committee following the attack outside the Parliament building in central London, Prime Minister May said the attack was a "sick and depraved" attack on the heart of the capital. Such attempts to defeat UK values were "doomed to failure", she added. "We will all move forward together, never giving in to terror and never allowing the voices of hate and evil to drive us apart," she said.
The UK Prime Minister said that the location of this attack was no accident and the attacker chose to strike at the heart of the capital city where people of all nationalities, religions and cultures come together to celebrate the values of liberty, democracy and freedom of speech.
Both houses of the British parliament will sit as usual on Thursday, she said, adding that the current level for terrorism threat in the UK would remain at severe.
Five people died and at least 40 injured in London on Wednesday after a car ploughed into pedestrians and an attacker stabbed a policeman close to the British parliament, in what police called a terrorist incident.
