Geneva - Arab Today

The Arab Network for National Human Rights Institutions, which is based in Doha, held today a seminar on its role in supporting human rights institutions in the Middle-East and its cooperation with UN Commission on Human Rights.
Head of the network Issa Bin Said Al Kayoumi said that the event was held to raise awareness on the role of the network and its role in the protection of human rights in the Arab region. The seminar would also help opening up the scope of more partnerships in the field, Al Kayoumi added.
The seminar also reviewed the network's its main activities and achievements so far. It also touched on the network's future plan and its cooperation with the UN Commission on Human Rights as a key partner.
For his part, member of the Arab Network for National Human Rights Institutions Dr Ali bin Sumaikh Al Marri, who is also President of Qatar National Human Rights Committee (QNHRC) said that the network adopted its statute in the general assembly it held in Doha. He stressed that respecting human rights was one of the key issues they work on, using the Universal Declaration of Human Rights as its reference.
On the network's main activities, Al Marri said that it encourages national human rights council and provides with the expertise and support to carry out their mission. It also helps enhance cooperation between those councils and other international and regional institutions. The network also holds workshops to help enhance the skills of members of national human rights councils.
