Egypt Today, egypt today US questions Lebanon’s abuse of Christians

Beirut – Georges Chahine

A US senator visiting Lebanese President Michel Sleiman has today expressed concerns over the treatment of Christians in the country. US Senator Frank Wolf, part of a US delegation visiting Lebanon this week, condemned the human rights abuses and lack of freedom that the country’s Christian’s still suffer, he said, despite Sleiman’s pledge to tackle the issue. “I have to mention the speech President Sleiman made during the last summit in Baghdad. He pledged to honour the human rights of Christians in Lebanon, offering them freedom and a respect for their beliefs,” said Wolf. Meanwhile, President Sleiman was heard discussing electoral reform and the state of the country’s political developments with key figures such as Environment Minister Nazim Khoury, General Issam Abu Jamra and former deputy Talal Mura’bi.
