UN special envoy to the Middle East Nikolay Mladenov
New York - Arab Today

UN special envoy to the Middle East Nikolay Mladenov discussed with Palestine's president of the council of the Islamic waqf in Al-Quds sheikh Abdul Azim Salhab and director of Al-Quds' waqf Azam el-Khatib the sanctity of the holy sites within the city.

They agreed upon the necessity of respecting the current custodianship of Jordan on such holy sites in Al-Quds.

Mladenov urged all parties to avoid all kinds of provocations, which could trigger tensions inside and outside Al-Aqsa Mosque, especially as the holy fasting month of Ramadan is approaching.

The UN envoy prodded Israeli authorities to left their imposed restrictions to allow Palestinians' access to the holy places for worship.
