
Special envoy of the Secretary General of the United Nations to Mali, Albert Gerard Quanderz, held talks with Mauritanian President, Mohamed Walad Abdel Aziz, about the future of peace in Mali. He praised the conditions of the presidential elections conducted in a "democratic atmosphere" adding that he called the Mauritanian president to provide support to the political process in Mali. Quanderz added that he also met with a number of Mauritanian officials, including the minister of defence and minister of foreign affairs to discuss the future of Mali after the elections and ways to eliminate the extremist organisation of al-Qaeda in the territory.
