UN convoy ambushed in Libya, no injuries reported

Assailants threw a homemade bomb at a UN convoy in the eastern Libyan city of Benghazi, a local security official and UN deputy spokesman said. No deaths or injuries have been reported. The convoy was carrying Ian Martin, the head of the UN support mission in Libya. Authorities say they have started a search for the attackers. Libya has been fraught with lawlessness since the ouster of the Muammar Gaddafi government last year, with local tribes and militias unwilling to stand down or hand over their weapons. Benghazi was the birthplace of the uprising that toppled Gaddafi, and has since sought autonomy from Tripoli.
