
Tunisia’s Ennahda Movement issued a statement on Thursday to congratulate France for its support of the Tunisian Revolution and its transition phase. Ennahda also said it is necessary to protect the common interests of both countries. Rached Ghannouchi stated that that his party appreciated the French stance in support of the Tunisian Revolution and transition process. He also valued the French president's statements commending Tunisians’ proven ability to creatively and successfully combine Islam and democracy towards guaranteeing rights, liberties and equality between all Tunisians. Ghannouchi also highlighted the common interests between the two countries that must be protected and developed in the framework of a well-founded strategic partnership. The statement of also valued the decision to reschedule part of Tunisia’s debts to France into investments and the French president’s call on French citizens to come to Tunisia for investment and tourism. Ennahda staunchly supported the French decision to assist Tunisians in regaining their rights through returning frozen and embezzled assets and commended France’s intent to open the special archive on the assassination of the leader Farhat Hached and reveal the details of this crime. During his last visit to Tunisia, French President François Hollande said “France has admiration for the democratic transition experience in Tunisia and is ready to rebuild with it stronger and more diversified relations.”
