
Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir promised on Sunday to set free head of the opposition National Umma Party (NUP) Sadiq al-Mahdi in the coming few days. He also promised to reconsider the verdict handed down against Doctor Mariam Yahya Ibrahim who was on trial on charges of renouncing Islam. A well-informed source told Sudanese newspaper Almashadalaan that a delegation of prominent leaders of the National Congress Party (NCP) including, Essam Ahmed al-Bashir and Al-Zubair Ahmad al-Hassan, held an expanded meeting with president Bashir to consider that matter.
