Egyptian security forces foiled an attempt by two African immigrants to enter Israel illegally, security sources have told Arabstoday, around 700 metres from the Rafah crossing. The two Sudanese immigrants were arrested after they attempted to pass through barbed wire defences to reach Israeli territory. Sovadah Washenwa, aged 38, and 37-year-old Ken Washenwa, were both sent to Rafah’s central hospital for routine checks before receiving the all clear. During questioning, both defendants revealed they had paid smuggling gangs $3,000 to reach Israel in order to look for work.
