Sudanese army announce prisoner release

Sudanese army spokesman el-Sawarmy Khaled Saad has announced the country’s military will release five South Sudanese soldiers, ahead of an official February 11 prisoner release in southern Darfur. The handover would be supervised by the International Red Cross, Saad said, adding that authorities originally arrested the soldiers in Darfur during an alleged attempt to infiltrate Sudanese territory. Saad claimed the move represented a “goodwill gesture,” demanding South Sudan release Sudanese prisoners, namely General Talfon Kuku who has been imprisoned for at least two years.
