Khartoum - Abedalgoum Ashmeag
The Sudanese government apologised for the inability to receive US special forces to protect the American embassy in Khartoum. Spokesman for the Sudanese Foreign Ministry Ambassador al-Obeid Ahmed Merwah, said in a communication on Friday between American Deputy Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs and the Sudanese Foreign Minister Ali Karti, that the American administration expressed desire to send forces to protect its embassy in Khartoum, on a background of the protest in most Muslim countries. Merhaw revealed that Karti refused to receive these forces. He also affirmed his country’s ability to protect foreign diplomatic missions in Khartoum, and its commitment in protecting their diplomatic guests. The protesters, who expressed anger over a film insulting Islam’s Prophet were estimated to be thousands. On Friday, they surrounded the building of the American embassy in Khartoum where confrontations took place and caused four deaths, according to the head of a popular agency for defending the Prophet in Sudan, Dr. Mohamed Ali Al-Gazouli.
