The measures taken by the government and state bodies at Giza’s al Warraq island aimed to protect citizens' lives and property in order to avoid repeating similar problems that occurred in the past, said Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Mohamed Abdel Aati.
The minister’s remarks were made during a press conference Tuesday in Fayyoum, where he inaugurated a water sanitation plant after being developed at a total cost of EGP 15 million to improve the irrigation of an 80,000-feddan area.
These plants go into service in order to ease the burden on farmers and to eliminate all problems facing them, Abdel Aati said, noting that the plants would increase land productivity, preserve soil fertility and meet the water needs of Fayyoum’s 79,800 feddans of cultivated land.
Meanwhile, the minister met with a number of farmers and got acquainted with their problems.
