Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry reiterated on Wednesday support for the unity and sovereignty of Iraq.
Shoukry, during a meeting with Iraqi President Fuad Masum in Baghdad, lauded the big achievement realized by Iraqi forces in light of the current internal and regional challenges facing Iraq.
In a press release, Foreign Ministry spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid said Shoukry, who arrived earlier in the day in the Iraqi capital, reiterated Egypt's commitment to backing Iraq's national institutions.
He stressed that Egypt stands at equal distance from all factions of the Iraqi people.
Egyptian-Iraqi relations will always remain deep and of special nature, he added.
Masum thanked Egypt for its unwavering support for Iraq, expressing full appreciation for President Abdel Fattah El Sisi's efforts to enhance Arab solidarity and help Iraq restore its regional status and overcome all foreign pressure the country is suffering from.
Though Mosul was liberated from Daesh terrorists, Iraq is still facing many challenges at home, including reconstruction of all areas that were damaged by militants and the declining oil prices.
He underlined the importance of fighting Daesh in Syria, saying it is an important step on the road of restoring stability and security not only in Iraq but in the entire Arab world.
The spokesman said Shoukry updated the Iraqi president on all reasons that led Egypt, Bahrain, the UAE and Saudi Arabia to take measures against Qatar.
Shoukry discussed with Masum the Qatari interference in Egyptian internal affairs, and its policies that threaten the Egyptian national security, referring to the role played for years by Doha-based Aljazeera channel in this regard.
The spokesman said Shoukry's visit to Iraq comes as part of the Egyptian political leadership's directives to develop relations with Iraq in all domains, especially in the economic one.
Talks also tackled consequences of the Turkish interference in the internal affairs of regional states, the spokesman added.
