Beirut – Georges Chahine
Two Saudi princes were involved in embarrassing incidents in Lebanon last week after one was robbed, and the other was assaulted. The first prince, Prince Sultan Bin Turki Bin Bader Bin Abdel Aziz Al Saud, was attacked in the Al Dabyeh area, 9km north of Beirut, near Lebanon’s prestigious Royale hotel. Sources have told Arabstoday that the incident took place last Thursday. The assailants are believed to have stolen money from the prince. Ali Alass, a soldier in the Lebanese army, was arrested for the robbery and an arrest warrant has been issued for the three other men involved, Ali Zuaiter, Ali Safwan and Yusuf Abu Nasif. These three men are currently on the run. The second prince was assaulted in central Beirut opposite the Al-Azaria building, after the Prince insisted on parking his car in a prohibited spot, causing a traffic jam near the St. George Church and Mohammed Al-Ameen Mosque. The prince allegedly verbally abused a nearby traffic officer who asked him to move the car. A handful of young Lebanese men stepped in to defend the patrolman, and the prince, his bodyguards and driver were assaulted. The Prince says that he regrets the incident, explaining that his companions were not aware of the parking regulations.
