A delegation from Egypt’s Rebel Movement (Tamarod), the grassroots opposition movement which drew millions of Egyptians to protest against deposed president Mohammed Morsi, met with the Russian consul on Thursday. The Russian diplomat noted after the meeting that what happened in Egypt was a revolution, refusing to describe it as a military coup. He said his country recognised Egypt's revolution, highlighting Russian support for the Egyptian people. Tamorod representatives expressed their appreciation for the consul’s comments, adding that they accepted his invitation whilst refusing to meet with a number of US officials due to the stand they have taken on the events that occurred in Egypt.
