Tunis - Azhar Jarboui

Angry protests erupted in Tunisia on Thursday evening after the killing of Mohammed Brahmi, leader of the Popular Current party, when gunmen shot him in his car outside his home. The Popular Front coalition of leftist parties called on rallies in Sfax, Sidi Bouzid, Brahmi's home town and the birthplace of the country's revolution in 2011, and outside the interior ministry headquarters in Tunis, calling to overthrow Ennhada, after accusing the Islamist party of killing the leftist activist. The protesters held banners against the government, reading “No Legitimacy After Blood” and “Dissolving The National Constituent Assembly is a National Duty.” Security forces used tear gas to disperse the protesters, in Habib Bourguiba Avenue, in the Tunisian capital. A number of angry young protesters also broke into Sidi Bouzid’s governorate headquarters, setting it on fire in response to Brahmi's assassination. Tunisian public opinion is living a shock after the assassination of the leftist activist and a member of the National Constituent Assembly. This is the second political assassination since the 2011 revolution.
