Amman - Iman Abu Kaoud
Thousand of Jordanians have begun gathering across the country to participate in the Global March to Jerusalem, marking the 46th anniversary of the occupation of eastern Jerusalem by Israeli forces. Several other demonstrations were organised after Friday prayers, with anti-government demonstrators condemning media suppression and demanding justice for the families of two young men killed in Maan, southern Jordan. In the capital, Amman, the Independents Movement carried out a sit-in after Friday prayers in front of al-Husseini mosque. Protesters chanted slogans against Abdullah Ensour's government, and called for a revision of security in Maan. In Maan, relatives of individuals detained in connection with the murder of two men accused the authorities of "framing" their loved ones, and called for their release, arguing they are innocent of any crime. Elsewhere in the country, in the southern town of Tafilah, youth organisations organised a protest for reform, and called on authorities to arrest and prosecute those looting from ordinary civilians. They used the government to freeze the price of basic commodities and electricity, and work together to resolve the economic crisis. In the southern region of Karak, there separate protests were organised, two in Fakoue and Sarfa in the north of Karak and another in the southern village of Mazar. Protesters chanted slogans against the government and Jordan's House of Representatives. They demanded the government to step down, and appoint a transitional executive which would pave the way for mid-term elections.
