Amman - Osama Al Rantissi

Jordan’s Prime Minister Abdullah Al-Nsour pledged yesterday that the authorities would release all those imprisoned during recent protests against the ruling regime in the coming 48 hours. Security forces arrested 300 citizens who protested against the government’s decision to increase fuel prices, including 16 minors. Almost 100 prisoners appeared in front of the State Security Prosecution accused of attempting to overthrow the ruling regime and organising illegal rallies. Jordan’s King Abdullah II met with representatives from the different political parties on Sunday. They discussed the parliamentary elections, and the king insisted that the all of different parties give priority to national interests, and added that first on the agenda would be forming a parliamentary government. Those in attendance reportedly appreciated his keenness to establish and maintain contact with the different parties. At the meeting, the king also urged the Jordanian people to participate in the upcoming elections.
