There are growing concerns for a Palestinian man detained by Israeli soldiers with severe injuries, whilst two others are being treated for gunshot wounds, following an attack by Israeli settlers and soldiers in Madama on Monday. Two brothers [Mahmoud and Mamun], from the village of Madama in the occupied West Bank, were grazing their family's sheep near the illegal Yitzhar settlement. Mahmoud briefly left Mamun, but later received a call from Mamun to return, fearing he would be attacked by an armed settler. Mahmoud returned to find his brother face down, handcuffed and being beaten by a settler while two Israeli soldiers looked on. He appeared to have sustained a serious injury. Mahmoud attempted to help his brother but was beaten by the soldiers with their guns. Shortly afterwards their mother and two sisters arrived with another brother, Amir. They too were beaten. The soldiers opened fire, narrowly missing one sister, then firing another injuring Amir in the leg. Amir was taken back to the village to be treated but Mamun was detained, severely injured, by the Israeli Army [at the Huwwara camp, according to the District Coordination Office]. Two other people were injured when soldiers and settlers attacked local villagers near to the incident. One person was hospitalised with gunshot wounds, while another was hit with a tear gas canister. A Red Crescent medic present said: “Since the successful United Nations statehood bid we have seen a dramatic rise in live ammunition wounds.”
