Arish – Yusra Mohammad
A US destroyer and nuclear submarine crossed the Suez Canal today under tight security on their way to the Mediterranean Sea. Sources from the Suez Canal Authority said the US nuclear submarine, NORSOLK, which was carrying 2,000 tons of cargo, crossed the Suez Canal in a convoy coming from the Red Sea and heading south, along with USS FARAGUT on their way to the Mediterranean Sea after the end of their deployment in the Gulf region. Security teams were on high alert inside the Suez Canal waterway during their passage, and two ships belonging to the Canal Authority followed them to clear their path. Officials went on to say that military air support was also provided to ensure safe passage. Ferries were stopped from transporting people between both shores; cars and trucks were also stopped from the bridge on top of the canal. Small boats were also not allowed entry either. Only employees of the Suez Canal were allowed to enter any of its fourteen stations. Sources also said security measures were taken to prohibit vehicles from the road parallel to the Suez Canal. The submarine and US destroyer was expected to cross the Suez Canal and enter the Red Sea at 3pm.
