Housing Minister Moustafa Madbouli
Cairo - Egypt Today

Housing Minister Moustafa Madbouli stressed on Thursday that the New Administrative Capital, currently under construction some 40km to the east of Cairo, is for all Egyptians regardless of their social levels.

The NAC is one of Egypt's mega national projects that was announced in March 2015 by President Abdel Fattah El Sisi.

Madbouli said, in press statements, the building of government employees' housing units has already started in the project so that they could move to the new capital once all ministries are relocated there.

The size of the new capital is the biggest compared with the other housing projects being implemented in Egypt, he said. The new capital will accommodate 6.6 million people.

The project is financed by the New Administrative capital Company and the Urban Communities Authority away from the State budget.

The new capital covers a 40,000 feddan area and should be finalized in four years.

The city will include all ministries, the parliament and the cabinet headquarters, an international airport, public gardens and parks that total 35 square kilometers (dubbed the Green River) and a residential district offering a total of over 23,000 units. There will be an office park of skyscrapers that will house a 345 meter-long high-rise, the tallest in Africa.

The new capital will offer homes for youth, low-income people as well as high-income brackets across 20 residential neighborhoods that will accommodate 6.5 million people.
