Beirut - Georges Chahine
The Secretary General of Hezbollah, Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, denied his groups’ possession of any nuclear weapons, adding that although Israel has nuclear and chemical weapons, Hezbollah do not have a need for them. Nasrallah stressed in his interview to the channel, al-Mayadeen that all options will be opened however if Israel attacked Hezbollah. “I have told the resistance fighters to get ready for a day when they might need to enter the Galilee region and this option is still on the table,” Nasrallah said. And in reply to how many missiles the resistance had, he answered: “A lot,” adding: “Our missiles can reach the coordinates that exist and this is considered as a real deterrent capability.” He spoke about claims that Israel would destroy Lebanon, saying: “Israel is evil and we have to defend ourselves, our sovereignty and our dignity. Some Lebanese politicians were surprised by my speech and wondered why we would want to go to war with Israel. However Lebanon is silent and the Lebanese government did not take any action saying the issue is on the table and under discussion.” In regards to the Israeli strike on Iran, Nasrallah stated it to be a serious matter adding that it could possibly be due to Iran becoming more deveopled and gaining more strength and presence. He said: “Israel considers Iran as a problem and the nuclear issue is just an allegory. Netanyahu and Barak wanted to strike it and drag the region, the Americans and some Arabic countries into war.” He confirmed that he had heard from Iranian officials that they were ready and would not remain silent. Nasrallah however believes that America is the resolution saying that in the past, Israel was a British tool but now was an American one, so everything Israel did, America would bear its responsibility. Talking about the Syrian crisis Nasrallah said: "The regime in Syria is different, first of all, it is the resistance and the Syrian regime was willing to engage in dialogue. There are traitors but also there are patriotic people in Syria." He added: “It was a wrong diagnosis from the beginning. In the first week I went to Syria and meet al-Assad and told him that it will get worse. When I mentioned there were public demands he had said he was ready for dialogue and for reform.” Hezbollah’s leader ruled out foreign military intervention in Syria, noting that “The Europeans were clear and the Americans are already having a problem negotiating with the Taliban after getting out from Iraq — so consequently why would they held a war in Syria? The consequences of military intervention in Syria cannot be predicted or guaranteed and the Americans want to resolve things in Syria. This doesn’t mean that America wants the regime to remain, rather for the crisis to remain so the country is left with no army or people.” Discussing the Pope’s visit to Lebanon, Nasrallah said “The late Pope’s visit was very much welcomed we will deal with it like a historic event along with the rest of the Muslims and Christians in Lebanon," concluding that “Hezbollah will be present in every station that all Lebanese will participate in.”
