Cairo - Akram Ali
Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi met with his Tunisian counterpart Mohammed Moncef Marzouki in the Federal Palace in Cairo. Morsi praised the Arab spring, which kicked off in Tunisia and helped inspire the Egyptian revolution, emphasising the strengthened relationship between Egypt and Tunisia. The comments came during a joint press conference between the two leaders after a special Egyptian-Tunisian summit was held at the presidential headquarters. Marzouqi confirmed the deep relationship between Egypt and Tunisia, saying: "We will continue to stand together, unified," adding, “whatever difficulties we face, we will seek to achieve what Europeans have done in terms of democracy.” Markouki then invited President Morsi to visit Tunisia - an invitation which was accepted by Morsi, who said he will visit at the earliest possible opportunity. President Mohamed Morsi explained that Egypt and Tunisia shared common goals of freedom and development and spoke about the possibility of partnering up on mutually beneficial development projects.  Morsi said: "we talk about the special relationship in facilitating travel and tourism and bonding mutual programmes and trade exchange." Morsi also stressed that Egypt supports the Syrian people in their struggle and their revolution, saying:  "We are against bloodshed and violence and against foreign military intervention in the affairs of Syria. We will take our actions to stop the bloodshed as soon as possible. We well also work on regaining the rights of the Palestinians."
