Nouakchott – Mohamed Abeidi Sherif

The Mauritania Youth Party on Monday called on national youth and student outfits in Nouakchott to stop “power-hungry conspirators” by proposing their causes in non-violent “conscious” ways. The party accused opposition parties of calling for the subversion of the constitution in public platforms, using the concerns of citizens and their daily burdens to their advantage. It added that the opposition lacked legitimacy however enjoyed vast freedom. “Dialogue and discussion are the only two acceptable ways to handle national issues,” Mauritania Youth stated. They stressed that the constitution and national constants, like national unity and social peace were “red lines” that were not to be crossed. It called on all political parties and civil society organisations to protect the “democracy gains” and achievements of the country.
