Tripoli – Moftah Mesbahi

Armed groups besieging Libya’s foreign ministry have withdrawn following demonstrations by local residents in the Zaweyat el-Dahmany ahd Fashloom areas of Tripoli. Militia originally surrounding the state building to pressure politicians to pass the Political Isolation Law, which would bar Gaddafi-era officials from taking office in state institutions. Others called for the overthrow of Prime Minister Ali Zeidan’s government, sources said. Residents called for an end to the siege, claiming milita members’ actions threatened to violate the sovereignty of the Libyan state.
