Beirut – Georges Chahine
Lebanon’s former leader Fouad Siniora has condemned Hezbollah for sending fighters to join the Syrian government, in its ongoing civil war against rebel groups. Former Prime Minister Fouad Siniora has demanded that Hezbollah, a prominent political party in Lebanon, stop sending forces to Syria in support of the regime's army, as it implicates the Lebanese government. Referring to the recent violence in the southern city of Sidon, the Al-Mustaqbal MP hit out at gunmen for blocking roads and “threatening people's movements”. Mentioning the anniversary of the Sidon liberation, whereby Lebanese troops ended the Israeli occupation of the city of Sidon, Siniora said "Sidon experienced an exceptional and very dangerous situation during the last few days therefore the visibility and openness became urgent now more than ever. We are determined to keep Sidon, the capital of the south, the city of openness and co-existence and will not keep silent about injustice.” Siniora also called for formation of a neutral government and the abolition of the Future Movement Law, which he described as sectarian.
