Amman - Oussama El-Ranteissi
Jordan’s King Abdallah has rejected Senator Laila Sharaf’s resignation Sharaf resigned in protest of her son, Faris Sharaf’s dismissal from the position of Governor at the Central Bank. Upon her resignation, Sharaf criticised the "stalling of the reform process" and "a significant decline and delay in dealing with corruption.” However, Sharaf today told AFP: “The King told me that my resignation has been rejected and I respect this decision.” "King Abdullah has called members of the Office of the Senate (which includes the President of the Council Taher Masri and three members in addition to Sharaf) to the breakfast table Friday”, she said. She has confirmed that she will meet the call. Faris was forced to resign on September 18th for criticising the government and for requesting that prices were raised, the Jordanian Prime Minister Marouf Bakhit said. Faris denied that he had pushed for prise rises. "The support of the government on certain goods and services goes to the rich and 80% of it goes to those who don’t deserve it”, he said. Sharaf is the widow of the former Jordanian Prime Minister, Abdul Hameed Sharaf, who died 1980, 10 months into his first term.
