Paris – Arabstoday

Former Syrian Vice President Abdel Halim Khaddam told the French newspaper 'Le Figaro' that over the last month Assad and his clan have been delivering weapons in towns and villages where their fellow Alawites live. The former VP, who has been living in Paris since he defected in 2005, also said the government has started to hide the army's heavy weapons in the hills and heights of the country. Khaddam then went on to say that “missiles and strategic weapons have already been fully transferred. Tanks and artillery, instead were only partially removed , as the regime needs them  against demonstrators." "Assad is also planning to send his fighters to Latakia airport," he added. Khaddam then said he believes Assad plans to divide Syria:"he aims to create a religious war. I know that a month ago he told one of his allies in Lebanon that he plans to create Alawite State from which he could lead a sectarian war.”
