Cairo – Khaled Ali
President of the Egypt of Freedom Party Amr Hamzawy has criticised President Mohamed Morsi’s participation in the Turkish Justice and Development Party conference (AKP).   Hamzawy said “The President shouldn't have attended this conference.” “The liberal and leftist movements should have unified, it was a mistake not to build a stronger opposition. The fact that political parties form unified blocs is very good, as it can now match the party in power. These blocs are Egyptian national forces, and do not aim at confronting the Political Islam.” In his interview with journalist Osama Kamal on Egyptian television, Hamzawi said that “the President has the right to choose his assisting team and his advisors, regardless of the party they belong to. And I don’t care if leaders from the Freedom and Justice party are appointed as governors or in the cabinet.” Hamzawi denounced “the Muslim Brotherhood’s control over the executive and administrative institutions of the country,” and demanded the total independence and the neutralisation of the state’s institutions. The journalist explained that his article – which sparked controversy –aimed at underlining the importance international treaties signed by Egypt when drafting the constitution. He said: “There is too much confusion between political parties and religious organisations. But we all agree that the Sharia is the main foundation of the legislation.” Hamzawi concluded: “We have to make up our minds and choose between two visions for the society: secular or religious.  There are many Fatwas on the religious satellite channels violently attacking the civil political movements.”
