Jordan will still admit Syrian refugees

Jordan has closed its borders with Syria but will still allow refugees fleeing the conflict into the country, according to government spokesman Samih el-Moaita. Jordanians will no longer be able to pass into Syria, el-Moaita said in a statement on Tuesday. Jordan’s armed forces meanwhile announced that 1,758 Syrians had entered the country on Monday alone. Most of the new refugees were women, children and the elderly. Jordan borders with Syria at two main points – in the Jaber and Naseeb regions. The opposition Free Syrian Army (FSA) now controls large areas close to the Naseeb borders.
