Jordan's Muslim Brotherhood hit out at the new Jordanian government on Thursday for its position on recent events in Egypt. The Islamist group’s leader in Jordan, Hammam Said demanded the Jordanian government review its support for Egypt's “criminals”. King Abdullah II of Jordan welcomed the overthrow of former Egyptian president Mohammed Morsi on July 3, announcing Jordan’s support for "the will and choice of the great Egyptian people". Said warned the Jordanian government that the Brotherhood would not keep silent if the country’s leadership refused to abandoned its position, which it described as a conspiracy against Islam and Muslims. The Islamic Labour Party in Jordan, the political arm of the Muslim Brotherhood, also condemned statements criticising the Muslim Brotherhood by spokesperson of the High Coordinating Committee of Jordanian Opposition Parties Nashat Ahmed. The Committee had spoken out over remarks attributed to leading Brotherhood member Zaki bin Arsheed which described nationalist and leftist party members as “impure”.
