Ussama el-Rantissy - Amman

The Court of First Instance of Central Amman acting in its capacity as Criminal Court has postponed the closing of the trial of former intelligence chief Lieutenant General Mohammad al-Dahabi. The court has delayed the verdict in the case against al-Dahabi until next Sunday, citing the need to study evidence. According to the Jordanian penal law, the court is obliged to deliver a verdict within three weeks of the prosecution and the defence making their closing statements. The law also allows the court to postpone judgement for ten additional days if the verdict is still not ready at the end of the three-week period. The prosecution accused al-Dahabi of laundering illegally-gained money, embezzlement, abuse of office, and exploitation of office. Al-Dahabi has been detained since February.
