Iraqiya MP survives assassination attempt

Iraqiya bloc MP Qais Al-Shathar survived an assassination attempt on Wednesday when a bomb targeted his convoy in southeast Baghdad, resulting in two of his bodyguards being injured. Al-Shathar told ‘Arabstoday’ that the explosive device also destroyed one of vehicles, adding that he was not harmed in anyway. “Security forces cordoned off the area and moved the wounded to a nearby hospital. I have started an investigation to determine the details of the incident and the party responsible for it,” he added. Al-Shathat refused to disclose further details.
