Yahya Alebadsh, member of Hamas and the Palestinian Legislative Council, has hinted the Islamist organisation could remove tunnels between Egypt and the Gaza Strip – if a better alternative becomes available. “Tunnels are not the best solution and we ultimately want to see them stopped,” he said in a press statement on Monday. The Hamas member claimed tunnels represented a “humanitarian necessity” for Palestinians living in Gaza. “As long as the occupation imposes its siege then the tunnels will remain a humanitarian necessity,” Alebadsh said. The Hamas figure expressed his hope that Egypt “would not become a partner with Israel’s blockade.”
