Forces restore calm in Lebanon's Tripoli

Lebanese security forces restored calm in the Lebanese city of Tripoli on Tuesday morning following intense clashes between soldiers and armed militant groups. On Monday evening, protesters burnt cars and damaged shop-fronts near Abdul Hameed-Karami Square. A 75-year old man died of smoke inhalation, and four others were injured as rioters pelted forces with petrol bombs. Local authority worked began their clean-up operation of the square on Tuesday morning, with the army deploying troops across the northern city. Shops were open for business once again and traffic had returned to normal.
